Frequently Asked Questions

What are the car seat laws in the UAE, and what are the best safety practices worldwide?

In the UAE, children under 4 years old must ride in a proper car seat, and those under 10 years old (and below 145 centimeters) cannot sit in the front seat.

Globally, safety experts recommend keeping children Rear-facing vs Forward-facing — at least until 4 years old, and ideally until 125 cm (around 6–7 years old).

After that, move to a forward-facing high-back booster seat and continue using
it until your child reaches 150 cm (around 10–12 years old).

How do I choose the best car seat in UAE?

The best car seat is the one that:

  • Fits your child’s age, height, and weight
  • Fits your car correctly
  • Meets ECE R129/i-Size safety standards

For maximum protection, choose one that has also passed
the Swedish Plus Test the world’s toughest crash test.

Our certified experts offer 1-on-1 car seat consultations to help you
find the safest option for your child, car, and lifestyle.

Is it worth buying a car seat overseas instead of locally in the UAE?

While an overseas car seat might seem cheaper at first glance, but once you add shipping cost, customs duties, VAT and potential compatibility issues, it can be more expensive than buying locally.
Buying locally in the UAE ensures you get warranty coverage, professional installation support, ongoing advice, and reliable after-sales service — giving you peace of mind.

When does my child outgrow their car seat?

Your child has likely outgrown their car seats when:

  • They exceed the maximum weight or height limit
  • Their shoulders are above the top harness slots
  • Their ears reach the top of the seat shell

When can my child move from rear-facing toforward-facing?

While law allows forward-facing from 15 months, at Safety On Board, we recommend rear-facing as long as possbile — optimally until 125 cm or 25 kg (around 6 years old). Rear-facing car seats offer superior head, neck, and spine protection in a crash.

What if I need to fit three car seats in onerow?

It’s possible in some cars, but not all. The best way is to book a consultation — we can test different car seat models in your car to see which ones fit safely side by side.
Brands like BeSafe and Axkid offer narrow models ideal for 3-across setups.

What car seat is best for twins, preemies, or smaller newborns?

Standard infant carriers often don’t fit smaller or premature babies properly. They need extra head, neck, and body support with the right harness position.

The BeSafe Go Beyond is the only car seat in the UAE crash tested with a Preemie Inlay, developed with neonatal nurses to safely support even the tiniest babies.

Do you offer professional car seat fitting services?

Yes! We provide car seat fitting services at our showroom, and we also offer home visits across the UAE for an additional fee. Our experts will help you choose the right seat, install it correctly, and ensure your child is safely secured.

When is it safe to move my child into a booster seat?

Most children under the age of 5 aren’t ready for a booster seat—they may lean, slouch, or play with the seatbelt. We recommend extended rear-facing until around 6–7 years old, depending on your child’s height and weight. If your child still fits safely in a 5-point harness seat, keep them there—there’s no need to rush to a booster.
